Although radishes are available year round their peak season is October to December. Radish is a peppery root vegetable related to the mustard plant, radishes come in many varieties. The hot spicy flavour of radishes comes from enzymes in the skin-peeling them reduces the effect, but that distinctive mustardy freshness is a large part of the radish's attraction. Red radishes are the mildest of the group. They are crisp and juicy, and usually eaten raw in salads. To Store: Radishes store well in the fridge if they are placed in a sealed container or plastic bag in order to maintain high humidity.
