The Afourer variety originates from Morocco. It deleloped a highly attractive deep orange-red colour and is easy to peel. It is known to be very flavoursome. It can be seedless, but this can be effected by growing conditions.
Mandarines are nearly always eaten fresh, partly because they are so conveniently designed for it, and partly because their sweet flavour, lacking the acid edge of orange, does not come through well in cooking, though it can be successful if the rind is used too. To Store: Mandarines will keep in good condition in a bowl at room temperature for up to a week, but keep an eye on them for mold. For longer storage, store in the fridge crisper for up to 2 weeks.
